Math Lert!

Hi!

I know at least two of my friends like math enough that they would prolly like this link.

http://www.stetson.edu/~efriedma/numbers.html

I was amused, but most of this is over my head since I haven't taken a math class close to ten years.

I was most amused by number 5, the number of Platonic solids. Because I can identify the shapes as Dungeons and Dragons dice.

Another Month

Real Life Update

Well remember that hour away job I mentioned last month? Don't have that anymore. Yes, my life changes pretty quickly sometimes.

Now I'm working with an insurance company. Doing filing and data entry.

It's a temp-to-hire. Half the distance away, and pays a little more, with the rumor that the rate will go up when/if hired.

So far, they are treating us like they are going to hire us. But, no guarntees until the paperwork is written.

I'm trying to get wed-fri off around thanksgiving. Husband and I plan to visit family. It will be a whirlwind trip, from Oh to NOVA, to NC, to richmond, then back to OH. *calculates* 25 hours of driving. Whee.

Still looking for the perfect job, but at least I feel in a good position now.

Dream

Just a dream I had last night.

Gotham City.

There's a little pigtail girl in a car. She's about 7-10. There's a police checkpoint. That's where they figure out, she's an orphan and riding a car creating a tax bill she won't be paying. Apparently in dream gotham, they tax people by a cab clock thing. the more you drive, the more tax. (out of dream thought, there was no gas, and the car was on autopilot.)
So the police take her in custody.
Somewhere else... I'm hanging with batman and the bat-crew. I'm batgirl (barbara gordon) with two Robins Tommy and Timothy and of course the big Bat himself bruce wayne. One of the robins set up a device that allows us to run like flash, but it was hard to start moving and hard to continue after reaching the other side of the effect. So the machine has a few kinks to hard out.
Not really sure why we the bat crew wanted the orphan. but I run in to rescue her. Apparently miss orphen was trouble...cause they had to restrain her.
In a SODA Machine!
Yeah, anyway. The orphan was scared but her could hear and talk.
So I convince the commissoner/mayor thing person to let me adopt her into the bat-crew. Otherwise, miss orphen would be in the hands of commissoner/mayor to mould. Which is way batman backed me up. I filled the paperwork. and pulled the soda machine away from the teleconfernce/tv thing the commissoner/mayor was talking from.
The commissoner/mayor doesn't like the bat-crew. But we existed before his election and have too much support from not only Brucec wayne, but the public. So we are a thorn. And I oopsy-ed on the paperwork, batman told me later. I used too much real life information, and my "Secret" identity wasn't so secret anymore. And the paperwork was permant file stuff. So hopefully when someone that likes us that gets election, maybe they can fix it...but yah.
So yes, off and on Miss orphen soda machine has questions, or I have questions..so I was talking to a soda machine. At least it talked back.
She escaped the soda machine. So we started to go back to the bat-route. I carried her and tried to return the rooftops...but batman had to help me a bit.
Oh, other fun fact...Gotham kindly installed handrail and grips in nice places for the bat crew to swing from.

So yes, silly little dream that looks more like a lj autopost!

Real Life

Yes, really there's something to report on!

Yesterday was my first day of working. I finally got a job. It's got a huge list of dissadvanges, but it better then no job.

First, it's an hour away. So it's a big commute for me.
Second, it doesn't pay much hourly. But there's opportunity for commissions.
Third, as indicated by the word commission it's sales. Actually Call Center.

I've done call center work before. This seems to be much the same concept. I just hope two things. I can pull through the season and be someone they want to keep. (Not that they are talking about letting people go after the season...) Or that some closer opportunity will allow me to move on.

Some of them still worshiped Christantity, despite it being 2000 in the future of today. Can't remember enough of the author and title to get amazon to find it unfort. That series really shook my beliefs at the time.
Oh, If there were gay sex book on the list. What about the Magic series by Lackey?

BTW: This post doesn't even being to cover whether I Agree with this list. There's a lot of issues this list represents. All and all, the purpose of a school library isn't for fun or enjoyment. It's for research kids need to do for their classes, or a reasonable fake so they can research in later years. Secondary is getting kids interested in reading. IMHO

Not much to report. Just In Hogwarts.

Ron is the eldest and slipped into elder stage. He's retired and moping around the house. Hermonine, after topping the scientist track is pregnant. So indeed, she put her career first and then is having the baby.

Harry and Gordon have adopted. Harry asking for another, but with Herm's on the way... I'm not doing it. Adoption gives you the choice of age. but not name. So now Harry has a daughter named chris.

Definitely, Herm's kid will be lily or james.

[edit] The joke's on me. Herm had twins! Lily and Petunia. I thought twins was rare in this game! I don't have cheesecake...sigh.

Nothing much just an update on the Hogwarts family

Fantasia

Well, finally Daemon and Jaenelle are together, settled into their own house. It's Askavi.

Hogwarts: Harry is finally over his contagious sickness and didn't infect anyone but Anduvlar. There was a happy joining between Harry and a NPC name Gordon. They are adopting a child. I didn't particularly Want to have the two of them together but the benefits were unexpected and good. First, Daemon was destined for Jaenelle. Second, Harry was a week from Elder. He didn't have time to court someone else to love and Gordon was second highest.

Funny, that not only is Harry in a slash relationship, it is also interracial. Gordon is black. Ron and Hermonine haven't finalized anything but I could with ease.

Gordon has a temper. He visited the Keep several times to yell at Andulvar and others. So, so much for the tight neighborhood being the issue. Guess Sims is taking the saying, "You can't please everyone all the time." to heart.

The added, unexpected, benefit of Gordon joining Hogwarts, was his friendships. I needed 3 more friends for promotion potential, which he brought in.

Cheyenne: is expecting a child. I haven't decided fully what to name it so I've been avoiding playing the family.

Eyrie: Daemon moved out. Marian is expecting another child. Daemonar is approaching adulthood and I'm not sure how to deal with that.

Sunnydale: Is a huge family, avoidance there is just because how crazy it is. I guess also because I'm not too interested in *making* anything specific happen for them.

Dungeons: with three people, there's not the big family excuse, but the not too interested in making things happe for them applies.

Don't misunderstand, I love them in neighborhood and I'm still wanting PC relationships over NPC.

Overall issue: Ageing. Soon the Sims are going to be elders and start dying. Yah, ghosts. But saddness watching that decline.

Which is why the firefly and serenity familys are in the wings. I figure it would be good to bring them in for the second generation. So, no I haven't forgotten them.

So far Second Generation is: Jaenelle, Daemonar, Mephis, Paytona, and little Jack and little Harry.

that's it for now.

Ohio Griping

I've been meaning to post my impressions of Ohio...

1: job fairs make me *laugh*. The amount of vendors offering jobs is *nothing*. Maybe I'm use to DC area job fairs....but 10-20 vendors....really small.

Not to mention, that one job fair was held at a basketball center, and they had a corner of the concession stand ring... Like...a mcdonald's restaurant in a walmart.

2: Ohio drivers are end of ramp mergers. Their ramps are built slightly different then DC's. DC, tends to have long prep part and a long merge part. If there's not space for a long merge part, no problem it extends in an exit ramp for the next exit.

Ohio tends to have a long prep part, but short merge space. Meaning, you better check and plan your spot, cause you ain't passing on the merge part.

Not to mention the larger flow ramps, where there's two lane ramp. This is the weird part. Again, DC for a two lane merge ramp, the right lane merges into the left, and that ramp merges with traffic.

OHIO, OTHO, the left merge lane merges with traffic and the right lane is a legitimate lane for a bit.

3: A couple of grocery stories I've been in expect people to turn to the left, first. Double entrances don't count, I realize they have a tough situation. But It's hard on me to consider to go left into the produce and loop counterclock wise to get to the aisle's I'm there for. (cookie aisle, of course)

4: Tho, I managed to find a couple of radio stations.

5: which reminds me, Dayton area news picks odd stories to mention. I guess DC spoiled me in that area.

6: The next Ward book is coming to the end of this month. The black dagger series. I really look forward to it, and *REALLY* wish for a paycheck so I can justify buying it more easily to get it. I was a bit disappointed with the Butch focused book, but I have high hopes for the Vischous perking the series back up.

PS: The nutter center. *snickers*

Fantasia

The Keep had twins. It's a good thing I had both Mephis and Peyton in mind for names. Tho, since it was girl and boy, I changed Peyton to a girl, Peytona. Peyton was only mentioned in the fourth book, and I was a little more attached to Mephis...

Fury hasn't gone away. Despite me moving the neighbors further from each other. Daemon popped up a couple of times to tell Saetan and Andulvar off.

Since Cassandra and Saetan had twins, I pulled in another character. Teresa. Yes, I hired a nanny, but i figured have a PC nanny would be good. I think I need to find some more messy hairdos...or do some myself...

So, yes I have a Teresa, and Daemon yelled at her too.

Daemon got some rage on him.

Don't know what I'm going to do. The only fix is to make the fury person a friend of the person they are yelling at.

Difficult, since every time they get yelled at it's restart at -50. Phone friend takes all lot of time. And they won't come over unless the person calling has over 30 positive points.

But good news is Jaenelle is almost adult. So the main point in playing the family will be done soon.

Gotta play the Hogwarts to get Harry cured up. He came over at the Keep and infected Andulvar.

Don't know who's pov to play for the courtship of daemon and jaenelle. Daemon's would be more the book's style. overall it doesn't matter much. I'm planning on moving them out to their own house once they hook up.

heh, maybe that would fix daemon rage, if he moved out and joined the Keep.

Fantasia

Because the Fantasy world is more fun.

Part 2

To start with, since this is the beginning, after all, I have played Sims 1 before. Some of my mistakes are because of assumptions and expectations of that.

Major change, after the aging thing of course, is the Sim population.

I mean wow. Random people stride by the house on a daily basis! Your family sims bring people home from work! People that you didn't pre-create! Sims 1, you had a serious problem if you went the military route in a brand new neighborhood. But they fixed it.

Unfortunately, that means my fantasia isn't as closeknit as I was expecting it to be. My favorite characters are forming bonds with NPCs.

The main realization tonight, that brings me to post is this.

The Angeline family. It's been fun watching Daemonar grow up. She's a teen now. That's not the issue. The issue is even tho I intended Daemon to be just a roommate, the game is treating him as family towards Jaenelle.

I even Moved Jaenelle to the Hogwarts. And met Daemon after her intergation there. But still family. No romance allowed between them.

I can move her out and delete her. Recreate her with Cassandra and Saetan. I definately don't want her blood relatives.

That's about all my choices. Because I don't want to Jaenelles running about. It would get confusing. Get the original out and replace her.

damn

OH one funny thing. Jack O'Neill does NOT like Lucivar. Jack came storming and shoved Lucivar with no invite, no reason I could see. And the relationship score was neg 40's. Things are getting better, but Lucivar still thinks about the situation with hatred.

Sims 2 Fantasia

I got Sims 2 this Labor Day weekend.

I've started a town called Fantasia where I'm building families that contain my favorite characters.

I have four families so far.

Hogwarts: Harry, Ron and Hermonie (no existing relationships, tho Ron and Herm have gravitated to each other) Harry and Ron are both in the political track. Herm went the science track.

Cheyanne: Daniel, Teal'c, Jack and Sam (again, no existing relationships) Jack grabbed the miltary track. Teal'c grabbed the sports track. (much lol'ing at his mascot uniform. He kicked over the neighbors trash cans!) Daniel's the homebody until they settle in. Sam got something, but I'm doing this off of memory and i don't remember what track she got...

Angeline: Luvicar and Marian Married, with a teen Jaenelle and Adult Daemon roomie. This was the cutest family. Luvicar and Daemon both have jobs. Daemon got miltary I believe, and Luvicar got buisness. Marian is the house mother. Luvicar and Marian had a baby girl. I named her Daemonar. Yes, I know in the book their kid was a son, but Sims doesn't ask what you want. So EVERYONE's been helping in that family. Daemonar is CUTE. And surprising Jaenelle babysits well.

Slytherins: Draco, Blaise and Pansy (no existing relationships) Blaise and herm do NOT get along at all. They are really a new family, so not much has happened to them. No jobs.

I build a new family, insert them into a house, give them a phone. Then I move to an existing family. So I know the new characters don't have jobs so I can call them whenever I want.

Some surprising things that have happened is. Harry and Daemon are "good" friends. Nod and wink and all that. ...Stop looking at me like that. ...Daemon ...well he's a hunk to boys and girls. Dammit. Yes, I'm sure if Harry proposed, they would be a couple. I'm torn over whether I want to do that or not. I read slash, not watch.

Luvicar and Ron get along Real well. Well enough that I'll have problems if Marian came over with Luvicar. (Sims get jealous if their mates are flirted with)

Yes, Teal'c is menacing the neighborhood. He walked the sidewalk in his bunny mascot suit in front of hogwarts and kicked over the trashcan. If that wasn't bad enough, he showed up later to do it again! But Herm ran him down and told him to leave. He strode by a third time, without stopping to kick the can. I'm thinking it's job rage. I should work on getting him promoted.

But the interactions of the character have been entertaining. Fantasia means more to me, because my favorite characters have a chance to interact.

Since I've been reading Buffy crossover, I should do a Buffy family.

Proposed families

Sunnydale: Buffy, Faith, Giles, Xander, Willow. No relationships. Giles homebody.

Serenity: Wash and Zoe Married. Mal, River and Simon siblings. (I'm tempted to bring Inara and Kaylee as a seperate family. Five family members is alot to handle. Maybe pull Mal out...lol it would be a three company thingy.)

Yes, that would be FUN.

Snippet Fanfic HP: Sorting Hat Introspective

Bear with me, this is just some thoughts on Mr. Sorting Hat.

Sorting Hat Introspective

Summary: I blame fandom solidly for this. For reasons that will spoil the ficlet. Mr. Sorting Hat thinks about the first years he's sorted.

Warnings: First Book spoilers and Order of Phoenix. Well, not *really* spoilers since the information doesn't spoil the end of the books. Just drew the most from Stone and a tad from Order.

Disclaimer: No, I am not Rawlings or anyone with creative authority to make money on the following. May they have mercy on me if they decide to sue me.

By: Aletathuvis

The sorting hat sighed to itself once more alone on a shelf in the Headmaster's office. The sorting hat was still feeling buzzed from the Welcoming Feast. This year was the greatest of years so far. The first years were the biggest year group yet. Not only did it nail the yearly poem, but the mental games are priceless.

Sorting was a difficult task. And the hat took its duties seriously. That being thought, there was something to be said about making things interesting with the multi-house people. Most students fit easily into the houses, about 75%. It was the 25% that the sorting hat looked forward to each year.

In case of tough cases, the sorting hat had a plan. First, rule out the unsuitable houses. A brief look of the first year's past, their feelings during confrontations, their understanding of family and love, usually took care of that. In the past, Pettigrew was assigned Gryffindor off that step alone. No loyalty, no cunning, no smarts. Not that the sorting hat mentioned it *that* way to the kid.

Of course, the reading and ruling out step created a noticeable pause to the first-year under the hat. The sorting hat skipped to the next step, most of the time by asking the first year where they wanted to go. Just in case it needed the information, of course. That Malfoy, the sorting hat giggled to itself, he not only screamed Slytherin mentally at the hat, but his whole life experience was Slytherin.

That wasn't always the case. Those Weasley twins, the hat almost sent to Slytherin. They loved their tricks and games. But they wanted Gryffindor and their practical jokes weren't for the purpose of building a power base. Not to mention what the two of the few threaten to do to itself if they weren't sent to Gryffindor. The sorting hat shuddered at the memory.

There was that one girl, Brown. She wanted to be a Hufflepuff. Why? Because according to records, Hufflepuff produced the most seers. The sorting hat scoffed at the idea. Seers weren't purposely put into one house or another. Everyone knows that a seer doesn't develop into their power until 13 or 14, so the Hufflepuffs having more seers is like...saying Ravenclaws have blue eyes. The hat mentioned this fact gently to her and steered her into Gryffindor.

The sorting hat also found that muggle raised wizards and witches had the biggest chances of being hard to sort. Like that Granger. No idea about magic. She was a girl, so fewer conflicts to measure. Good solid family bond, almost made the hat consider Hufflepuff. But she was really either a Ravenclaw or Gryffindor. A good deal of her memories had to do with reading and studying. Oh my, did she REALLY already read Hogwarts, A History? The sorting hat laughed to itself. But it was the reason, behind the studying that tipped her into Gryffindor. She wanted to excel so that she could help the boy-who-lived. Gryffindor material through and through. Not to mention, she had the spine to pull a few of her year mates through their studies, Gryffindor could use a bit of that.

Oh there were a couple others, Crabbe and Goyle. Really Hufflepuff material but sorted to Slytherin due to their bias towards muggles. Or rather their families, which they would absorb and believe themselves, unless weird events occurred. That Longbottom, a Hufflepuff candidate, sorted into Gryffindor. He was the prophecy's second chance; Longbottom would need the support of courage if he's called upon.

Last and not least, Potter. The Boy-who-lived himself. Really an easy sort. But Potter had Not Slytherin on the top of his head as strongly as Malfoy had Slytherin in his. It was really too easy to jab that spot to start the conversation with. Potter had a too rigid code of wrong and right to even consider the Slytherin house. Yes, Potter was indeed the truest Gryffindor the Sorting Hat had seen in years.

husband goes to work tomorrow. He's had fri-tues off for the unpacking. It's been ok, but I'm looking forward to having the new house to myself.

Made real progress towards making my space. I've claimed a potion of the basement and a niche in the bedroom. I've noticed that he has more organized style then my own. Hopefully the niche will allow my style without impugning on his.

There's a 12X8 carpet. My bed isn't on it, but everything else is.

I think it will be a tad noisy, but the opportunity for space is great. I could've taken a bedroom, but there's several reasons I didn't.

I haven't tried hard enough to sleep in the same bed as husband since the wedding. I figure if I have to go two stories to the 'other' bed, that maybe I'll try harder to get used to sleeping with him.

Also, I thinking DND would be great down in the basement. Now to find victims...hehe

Ooooh Job news. I have an interview Monday with a company. Plus I'm going to a job fair with a cable company. Things are looking good.

That's life for now.

The Move Cont.

The movers delivered our stuff on Fri. I almost have the kitchen done.

husband set up most of the bedroom. Both of the cats are at the house.

I'm taking a break right now. I've been on my feet most of the days fri to today.

I do have a job interview thing tomorrow. It's not quite interview, and it's a tad bothersome that I wasn't able to do the online test they wanted. I messed up on my email address. I created a new address for RL job hunting and didn't type it right on the resume. i already tried telling them the real address but I still haven't gotten anything.

bah

well, that's all from the northern end of the bible belt for right now.

Bible Belt

I declare that ohio is the northend of the bible belt!

DC has like ONE christian station. OH has like 6.

Not to mention many more stations in general then DC.

I couldn't even find six stations to put on my buttons!

Oh well. More griping later.

Packers came in today and packed up my junk.

It was fun. I helped by packing my books. I'm not the type to sit a back and watch people work for me. Not my style.

i did goof after lunch. I didn't want to be in their way and it was hard to help keeping that first rule in mind.

tomorrow most of my stuff will be loaded into the truck. Then I'm headed to my parents, and wednesday I'll be an Ohioian. damn, still need to look up that term. Ohioan...um needs more constantants.

The loaders were a different story. There was no helping them without being in the way. So I read for a little bit, answered questions and took down most of the nails in the walls.

And august 10th, they will be dropping off the stuff! Wheee

Book Check!

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don't search around and look for the coolest book you can find. Do what's actually next to you.

The Harlequin by Laura Hamilton (I swear, it was the nearest book!)

One minute leopardman, the next human again.

I blame mehael for this post.

First Day of Freedom

My last day of work was yesterday.

I have trained my replacement. He should be able to most of everything I did. It's uncertain whether they wanted him to write documentation or not. But he's got all my files and full explanations of what the shit is.

So technically I haven't done anything but watch him do the work this past week.

Which baffles me more, since last night I had dreams of working. Excel spreadsheet dancing in my head. Sigh.

So, I'm heading to OH today. We close on the house Monday. There's a job fair on Tuesday an hour away. then I'm coming back to the apartment for one last trip to DC and of course packing for movers.

Some people at work got me a card signed by everyone and and cake with Yoda's face. David, a coworker, asked if the pic of the cake was my baby picture. I replied "No cake for you!" in soup-nazi fashion. Tho husband had a better answer when I told him that. His was "I was wondering what your husband's face was doing on my cake..."

To people who want my new address. Email or contact me. I'm not posting it on open internet.

Well, gotta start the transformation from Viriginian to Ohiotornain or whatever ohio people call themselves.

Ack- so much to find out! The technical terms boggle the mind! :-)
